Yacht Delivery of Catana 50, Mallorca to Sardinia

Tourism and Yachting in Mallorca has had a good year with problems elsewhere on the globe. We have therefore had a big influx of Yacht Delivery in Mallorca.

The Catana 50 is a well built boat that handles and performs fantastically. This owner version came with a multitude of extras. Fully battened Main as well as a very powerful Code Zero. Interior extras include Onan Generator, Sluice Watermaker, Washing machine, dishwasher, Aircon, solar power. Two very adequate Volvo Penta Turbo Diesels are there for motoring and maneuvering.

Yacht Delivery from Mallorca to Sardinia, the passage:

This is a route that we are very familiar with and on board a boat as well built as a Catana it posed no issues.

I took 2 crew members with me, the 1st mate, Alex was qualified with Yachtmaster Offshore.
We departed early on a tuesday morning, the Mediterranean is USUALLY a placid place in August and thats exactly what it served up for us. Motoring along the North Coast of Mallorca completely becalmed, the views are spectactular. Taking in Dragonera, Sa Foradada and Formentor.

By nightfall Menorca was in the distance behind us, finally a light breeze from the South East allowed us to put the engines off and make use of the powerful rig and brand new sails. With the leeward Dagger board just over half way down she powered up and we were doing 6kts in less than 10kts of breeze. The majority of the way over towards the Straits of Bonifacio was the same. Light and flukey but when we got our chances to sail we took them with relish.

F5 headwinds greeted us in the Straits. We reefed down accordingly and tacked our way eastwards. The Catana handled it well and soon we were bearing away through the Magdalenas at speed. She handled nicely for a Catamaran upwind but excellently on a reach.

We picked our way through a lot of Summer traffic (mayhem), even weathered some very gusty breeze near Porto Cervo without incident. Their had been a strong Southerly blowing on the eastern side of Sardinia for some days, so we had a slow beat down towards Olbia against a large swell.

Regardless, we arrived bang on time, with enough chance to washdown and prepare for the owners coming aboard for their yearly holiday in Sardinia. She was in pristine condition upon handover!
